ALEXANDER’S “BAD DAY” A GREAT DAY FOR LOCAL KIDS!
By Lee Miller
A dreary bleary rainy Saturday morning in West Chester on July 14th provided the perfect backdrop for 150 kids and adults to witness Alexander having a very bad day at Uptown! Entertainment Alliance’s first Summer Children’s Series presentation, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.”
A spirited young troupe from Ocean City Theater Company danced, sang, and enchanted kids of all ages as they chronicled every child’s worst nightmares — ranging from the dentist’s drill to chewing gum in the hair to lima beans for dinner and kissing on TV — in a delightful adaptation of Judith Viorst’s beloved book, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.”
The hour-long show, at the Chester County Historic Society, brought peals of laughter and clapping throughout, with references to “hamsters named Stinko,” (not) feeding baby sisters to a mean hungry bear, and how awful it feels when mom forgets dessert in your lunchbox.
Those who missed out on “Alexander” can still get tickets for the next two productions in the Summer Children’s Series:
- “Red Riding Hood’s Woods” on Saturday, July 28 , 2012, at 11 a.m.
An interactive musical with all the familiar Red Riding Hood characters - “The Fabulous Fable Factory” on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at 11 a.m.
A seemingly abandoned factory where the “machinery” performs Aesop’s fables
Both performances will take place at The Chester County Historical Society at 225 North High Street, West Chester; tickets may be purchased there or online at uptownwc.org.
