Uptown! held its first jazz concert at the historic Chester County courthouse on Friday, September 14, emphasizing our theme, “Entertainment Needs a Home.”
Standing on a temporary stage in front of the courthouse steps, Uptown! Vice President Tom McEvoy introduced popular jazz vocalist Sara Michaels and her band to the gathering crowd. To audience acclaim, Tom pointed at the courthouse, one of the properties we’re considering as a possible permanent home, and said, “how would you like to see us put a theater in there?”
With thanks to our concert sponsor, Bancroft Construction, Tom also put out a call for donations from the audience. Finance committee chair Richard May stood by on the steps, accepting donations via the new credit card device on his iPad.
Our thanks also go to the Uptown! volunteers who made this event possible, doing everything from producing the promotion materials to leveling the stage right before the concert and even stacking up the chairs at the end.
Look for announcements of more Uptown! events in the coming months. Meanwhile, help us reach our goal of a theater in West Chester by donating or volunteering through this website.
